Having been made redundant from the Hull City Council whilst on maternity, Janine Burley, a mother of four took the redundancy package and began a self-employed journey.
Janine needed to find work that fitted with family life. She decided to run her own business and launched My Baby Can Dance, a preschool dance activity based on movement to music and early years learning.
My Baby Can Dance was first launched at Hull Sports Centre YPI in October 2011, one hour a week on a Wednesday morning. After only 7 months trading Janine had won the best preschool activity for Hull and East Riding with Netmums.com.
Last year Janine was chosen as a finalist for Best Business Start-up 2016 in Newcastle.
But her accolade came as a bolt of lightning when she was nominated for Business Woman of the Year 2017 with Yorkshire Choice Awards. The results were announced in Leeds on 1st April 2017.
“I was announced as finalist in the top 4 out of 50 business women, I was the one to take the ultimate Win as Business Woman of the Year 2017.”
This win is an enormous achievement for Janine, not only was the award won by a Hull Business Women. but won in the year of Hull UK City of Culture.
“I have recently been in demand to talk about my remarkable story, and I’ve been an inspirational speaker for women in business which I love sharing because franchising is an area that isn’t as commonly talked about from grass roots.”
Recently, Janine showcased My Baby Can Dance at the Princes Quay with Hull and East Riding Mumbler attracting hundreds of families in the region.
With 44 centres across the UK, children are experiencing the best My Baby Can Dance has to offer.
